Marketing for AI companies: how to stand out
Developing a marketing strategy for an AI startup in 2024 is even more complicated than 5 years before. AI used to be a very specific field which was known only among closed circles, and now it is everywhere. How to make sure your potential customers know about you and distinguish you from the competitors?

There are several ways to create your content and look unique as an AI project
⬇️

  1. Find your niche
When you craft the product itself, you think about how to stand out from millions of competitors, what will be your killing features and what product features will make customers want to buy it. In the beginning of your path, it is very beneficial to find your audience. With content, you have to do the same — choose the features that you want to highlight, match it with users’ searches and create niche content that your audience is dreaming about.

To do it, you need to specify what exactly your product does and who needs it. Use SEO to market your product: find the most relevant niche keywords and tailor your posts in order to answer the most relevant questions, using low and middle frequency queries.

2. Show how and why it is useful

People want to know why using the project benefits them, and what actions they actually need to perform to get the announced result. Therefore, this point becomes the most important one: you need to draw attention to your system.

What to do:
  • Create a demo: let people see how the system types a code, models a face or plots your data. In general, let it work in front of their eyes. For example, that’s what Superface did: they created a so-called technology preview and recorded the program’s run
  • Explain why AI makes this process faster and cheaper: most of the products are created to replace a real person’s monotonous work. Show the difference in time and outcomes: make your audience see why it will improve their business. You can even create a saving calculator which counts how strongly they will win using your product. That’s exactly what Automaise did: their product allows users to optimize Customer care, so they suggest counting how much it will impact your team judging from the number of your agents, their incomes and amounts of work they do.
  • Share small secrets: instead of trying to show the whole thing, just record certain features and lifehacks, which can significantly improve the lives of your users, in a way as datrics.ai does it with exploratory data analysis brick or autopreparation function, showing series of videos, where use each specific tool is recorded separately: from the input to the output. The main idea is not to add anything extra: make it simple and easy to repeat.
  • Show that you care about their privacy: it is easy to reach it, if you are the project such as Private AI who can literally describe their purpose as to create a data-protected AI. Otherwise, you can communicate your data protection directly or even organize an event, dedicated to problems of responsible AI: exactly how Deeploy did this year to discuss the ethics and borders in AI usage.
3. Educate
  • It is still beneficial to run the educational blog about AI and particular usage of it. For example, Synapse Analytics has recently collaborated with Jacquelyn H. Berry, Ph.D. Cognitive Scientist and Assistant Professor of Psychology to write a controversial article about the difference between human and machine learning. They used the cute lab rat as a cover image for this article and stated interesting questions – and this inspired people to read it.
